How to remove a moderator

If you don't like the moderator of a subreddit, you should read the FAQ that Reddit has:

What if moderators are bad or ineffective?

Please keep in mind that moderators are free to run their communities as they choose, so long as it is not breaking any global Reddit rules.

If you have an issue with a moderator or the way a community is being run, please first try contacting the moderator to see if it's just a simple misunderstanding. You may contact the moderators of a subreddit by sending a message to /r/[name of subreddit].

In the rare case where a moderator has lost touch with their community, any redditor has the option to create a new community and shape it the way they'd like. Then users can choose to post in the new community instead, helping make it a success.

Sounds to me like the only way to remove a moderator is to get them banned for breaking the rules.

What are the rules? Read them here: http://ift.tt/1NaF1l5

If you have examples of a moderator breaking any of reddits rules, I recommend you consolidate them all into a single item, and provide them to reddit and ask that the user is perma-banned.

IMO, subreddits don't belong to individuals, they belong to the greater congregation of users. Just going and creating a new subreddit isn't the best idea.
