[Meta] Being able to turn certain tagged posts on or off in /r/SeattleWA is awesome. Is there a way to implement similar functionality to allow users to opt out of the pop up message notification?

Personally I find that pop up to be obnoxious as hell and not even useful since it disappears before you can click on it unless you rush. And there's a red message notification that already shows up in the upper right corner to tell me if there's a message waiting for me.

I know that /r/SeattleWA's subreddit theme is based on an existing theme so the email pop up is baked in. But if whoever is doing the work on the sub which allows for filtering of posts could do something equivalent to let individual users turn off their message notification, that would make this sub even groovier than it already is. Thanks!
